Celebrate in your community!
I have decided that looking for IWD Events in Region 3 is much like looking for a needle in a haystack! And for that reason, I leave it to you to discover celebrations, however modest that may honour IWD over the weekend of March 6-8, 2010 in communities near you.
As part of Region 3 falls into the Greater Toronto Area, you may find it convenient and exciting to attend the huge Toronto IWD Rally and March on Saturday March 6th. Rally starts @ 11am at OISE, march begins @ 1 pm and goes to Ryerson University for a Women’s Fair starting at 1:30 pm at the Ryerson Student Centre.

Of course, nobody can march on an empty stomach, so the Toronto and York Region Labour Council is sponsoring the annual Mary Spratt Breakfast Saturday March 6th, 9:00 – 10:30 am at the United Steelworkers Hall located at 25 Cecil Street, Toronto. Tickets are $8.00** per person.
All proceeds go to Toronto women’s shelters.
Speaking of labour councils, Region 3 locals who are located in York Region, are you affiliated with the Toronto and York Region Labour Council yet? Remember that OPSEU Head Office will reimburse no less than 90% of the cost of labour council affiliation as per the Constitution. Connect with labour in your community-Region 3 locals, affiliate with your labour council!

Also, for those of you in the Aurora, Newmarket, Bradford area and familiar with Upper Canada Mall, the York Region Violence Against Women Co-ordinating Committee is hosting an event on Monday March 8th at the mall. They are using the day as a public awareness opportunity, but also will have space allocated to provide services like henna, manicures, make-up tips, massage etc…for a small service fee to promote self-care for women.
Finally, the Canadian Auto Worker’s Eastern Women’s Network is hosting their 14th Annual IWD Breakfast on Sunday March 7th in Oshawa at the CAW Local 222 Union Hall at 1425 Phillip Murray Avenue.
