Two hundred OPSEU, CUPE & ONA members rallied outside of MPP Jeff Leal’s office. Protesting the 71 bed closures and 151 job cuts proposed by the LHIN’s ordered Peer review. There is no doubt that these cuts will effect both the economy and healthcare services in Peterborough and surrounding area.
Last week at the annual OPSEU convention, the delegates passed an emergency resolution moved by Sister Marion Burton, local 345. The resolution calls on OPSEU to mount a campaign in conjunction with local 345 and local 373 to fight the hospital cuts. Along with the Executive Board motion to hold protests at Liberal fundraisers, bringing forward our concerns over the provincial budget, there is no doubt the Liberals will hear a LOUD OPSEU voice this summer!
There are still seats available on the Region 3 bus heading to Collingwood on Friday, May 14th to protest at the Liberal Policy Conference. Please check this website for more information on this important event.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Sister Claire Rowett or Brother Pete Wright
