Pension Town Halls Sept. 20 and 24
OPSEU members and leaders need to mount sturdy opposition to Premier Dalton McGuinty’s plan to take control of pensions for most OPSEU members, says President Warren (Smokey) Thomas.
Members across Ontario have a chance to get in on the conversation during town hall meetings that will take place over phone lines Thursday, Sept. 20 and Monday, Sept. 24.
Members can ask questions and register their opinions in on-the-spot polls, the results of which will be reported during the one-hour meetings.
OPSEU has mounted an all-out effort to push back McGuinty’s pension grab and continues its longstanding campaign to secure pension coverage for others.
“All people deserve to retire with dignity,” says Thomas. “The problem with pensions in Ontario is that most people don’t have one. Dalton McGuinty should be fixing problems, not creating new ones. ”
Thomas will moderate the town hall meetings and will be joined by two panelists with pension expertise. Executive Board Members Mike Grimaldi (Region 2) and Nancy Pridham (Region 5) will take questions from members across the province.
There are four town halls to give more members a chance to participate. If you are not available to take place in the one set for your region – or if you don’t know your region number – you may join any of the four.
