(LINDSAY) About half a dozen inmates, which the president of the union representing correctional workers, says were likely drunk on handmade brew, rioted at the Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay Wednesday (Feb. 12).

“From what we’ve seen so far, those offenders were likely drunk,” says Chris Butsch, president of OPSEU local 368, which represents employees at the jail.

“They make their own brew,” he explained. The process, which can be easily found online, involves simple materials like a bag, bread and fruit. He added prisoners making their own alcohol at the facility is becoming an increasing problem for staff to deal with. (more)
